2022 CARLA FENDI STEM AWARD

TO MARICA BRANCHESI

The STEM Award was presented to astrophysicist Marica Branchesi for her contribution to the detection of gravitational waves. The €30,000 grant supported the training and research activities of young scientists at the Gran Sasso Science Institute, where Branchesi is now Full Professor of Astrophysics.

According to the scientific journal Nature, Branchesi is among the ten most influential scientists of recent years. She worked for many years at the California Institute of Technology, participates in the international Virgo/LIGO project, chairs the Scientific Council of the Italian National Institute for Astrophysics, and coordinates the international group developing the scientific case for the Einstein Telescope, the next-generation gravitational wave observatory.
