2024 CARLA FENDI STEM AWARD

TO ERSILIA VAUDO SCARPETTA

In its 13th edition, the prize was presented on the final evening of Spoleto67 Festival dei Due Mondi to astrophysicist Ersilia Vaudo Scarpetta, Chief Diversity Officer and Special Advisor on Strategic Evolution at ESA, the European Space Agency. The award was handed to her by Maria Teresa Venturini Fendi, President of the Carla Fendi Foundation, together with conductor Barbara Hannigan during the Festival’s closing concert.

The prize contribution supported Il Cielo Itinerante”, a non-profit organization of which Ersilia Vaudo Scarpetta is President and co-founder, along with Alessia Mosca and Giovanna Dell’Erba. Created in 2021 with the mission to “bring the sky where it cannot reach,” the association — through its initiative Italia Brilla — travels across Italy with a van filled with experiments and telescopes, offering children in underserved educational areas in Rome the chance to experience the wonders of Science and Space.
