Textile Designer | Mahler & LeWitt Studios and Carla Fendi Foundation Residency | 2022
Textile designer Maïté Oucèni was selected, in collaboration with the Ethical Fashion Initiative — an agency of the International Trade Centre operating under the auspices of the United Nations — for the first residency at the Mahler & LeWitt Studios supported by the Carla Fendi Foundation. Oucèni’s biomimetic approach draws inspiration from the natural environment not only in terms of materials and forms, but also from the functioning of ecological systems. The idea of fostering technological and economic innovation while generating a positive environmental impact also underpinned the natural dyeing workshop she led as part of the Mahler & LeWitt Studios’ Materia project during Spoleto66 Festival dei Due Mondi, marking the conclusion of her residency.
