AMERICAN ACADEMY IN ROME
The American Academy in Rome is a historic and prestigious institution that contributes to the promotion of the arts and culture, with particular attention to the relationship between the United States and Italy. On several occasions, the Carla Fendi Foundation has supported artistic projects developed in collaboration with the Academy, following the vision inspired by Carla Fendi herself, who, both personally and professionally, was always a great admirer of American culture and know-how.
To further enhance this bond, Maria Teresa Venturini Fendi, through the Foundation, established the Carla Fendi Rome Prize, awarded over a two-year period to support an artist in residence at the Academy. The prize was presented in 2022 to Tony Cokes, a visual artist and Professor of Modern Culture and Media at Brown University, and in 2023 to Iranian-born artist Kamrouz Aram, who is based in New York where he works across drawing, painting, collage, and installation. Additional collaborative projects are currently under consideration, with a particular focus on visual art connected to science
