Baldwin Giang

Composer and Multimedia Artist | Mahler & LeWitt Studios Residency | 2024

The Foundation contributed to the final event of the residency of the internationally acclaimed composer, pianist, interdisciplinary creator, and educator Baldwin Giang, winner of the Samuel Barber Rome Prize. Following a one-year residency at the American Academy in Rome, Giang was hosted at the Mahler & LeWitt Studios in Spoleto, where the concert for Spoleto67 Festival dei Due Mondi was curated in collaboration with the Carla Fendi Foundation. Scenes from the Post-Diaspora, presented in multiple movements each accompanied by a film, is a work exploring ideas of post-globalization identity and hybridity within the urban environments that shaped the composer’s personal background. A recipient of numerous scholarships and international awards, Giang has received commissions and performed his music at prestigious venues in the United States and abroad, appearing with various ensembles at major festivals worldwide.
