MUNICIPALITY OF SPOLETO
Carla Fendi’s relationship with the city of Spoleto began long before the establishment of the Foundation that bears her name. From the very early years of the Festival of Two Worlds, the Umbrian town became a place of deep personal attachment for Carla Fendi. The creation of the Foundation in 2008 transformed this personal bond into a long-standing collaboration with the Festival, further strengthening the founder’s emotional ties to the territory. This commitment took concrete form in the five-year restoration of the historic Caio Melisso Theatre. In 2015, the Foundation was able to return this building of great historical and artistic significance to the city, making it once again available for the many theatrical and musical events. In recognition of this act of patronage, the Municipality of Spoleto awarded Carla Fendi honorary citizenship and renamed the Caio Melisso Carla Fendi Theatre. Carla Fendi’s deep and continuous involvement with Spoleto and its Festival led to her appointment in 2012 to the Board of Directors of the Festival of Two Worlds as a representative of the Italian Ministry of Cultural. Following her passing, this position was assumed by Maria Teresa Venturini Fendi in her role as President of the Carla Fendi Foundation.
